I was commissioned by an architecture studio in Barcelona to produce Black & White images of a project from the earliest phase - bare ground to completion.
The commission evolved around the aspects of the building process, taking photographs of the architectural features, materials used and workers as the project progressed throughout the period of over a year.
The images were edited and presented to client on a monthly basis.
“One day, flicking over an exhibition catalogue, we discovered an interesting photograph which happened to be from our city (…) We were impressed by it’s composition, it's contrast and the play in Black and White, but also it made us question the point of view the photographer chose for it’s execution.
There were the buildings, the sky, and the city… all of it wrapped in a laconic and melancholic, but incisive and precise form.
Montserrat Rubio is interested in all of this.
We decided to entrust Montserrat a job almost for a war correspondent: to follow the process of various buildings we were constructing in the same city, to enter it’s placental development, instead of presenting ready finished, polished and perhaps unanimated. We believe her work, answered to all of our expectations.” A. Poch & J Moliner
